Good Talk, Good Speaker, Good Venue, Good Project

Mary Jablonski of Jablonski Building Conservation, a professional with whom we have a long and happy relationship, is giving a talk next week on the restoration work at the Coignet Building in Brooklyn. Mary was a key to the success of the project, as was Shaquana. I expect it to be a talk full of, if not high drama, really interesting and useful discussions of 140-year-old precast concrete.

The talk is part of the Labor, Literature and Landmarks series of lectures at the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen, a venerable institution founded in 1785 (which makes it older than the Constitution of the United States) and still educating New Yorkers. This year’s lectures are, unfortunately, being held via Zoom, but I urge anyone interested in the lectures to go in person when that’s possible again. The GSMT library is a great room and less well known than it should be.
