It Looked Familiar: For Clarity

The horizontals connecting the tops of the trusses over the vehicular lanes are not the flashiest part of the truss system, but they provide bracing for the truss chords. They’re missing in the comic book either because the physics of buckling works different in that fictional universe or, more likely, to provide a better view from above of a car on the roadway.
