That’s a hand-colored stereoscopic view from the 1860s, of actors pretending to be dressing up for social calls on New Year’s Day. I have a lot of questions which are unlikely to be answered. Did all bachelor apartments have a guitar or is that to serenade the people who they’re going to visit? Is this a boarding house or would four men have been sharing an apartment? (Probably the former, but who knows?) If the guy on the left is getting ready, wouldn’t he have put his suspenders up before putting his vest on?
