It’s almost like turning over a large percentage of our streets to parked cars isn’t a good idea. Neither was laying out a city without service alleys, but that mistake – fixed in stone, brick, asphalt, and concrete in Manhattan – isn’t going to be changed. But we can reclaim some street space for better uses, like garbage bins.
And maybe there’s a third topic at hand: outdoor dining.
