Windmills

This – “NY tentatively approves 3 offshore wind farms, including Ravenswood project” – is good news. The way to get clean energy is to build clean energy projects, incrementally: waiting for the single vast project that will solve all the problems is ultimately the same as doing nothing. The area southeast of New York – the New York Bight and nearby – would be terrible for solar, as it’s often foggy, but is fantastic for wind power.

We don’t now know exactly what combination of changes in energy use, improvements in efficiency, and new sources of energy will get us to where we need to be in terms of pollution and carbon release. Might as well try everything we can think of, to see which works best.

The picture above is an 1831 engraving titled “View of New York, from Jersey City”. So I guess there was a working mill in Jersey City at that time.
