This 1900 map of Manhattan looks, at first glance to be simply another detailed map with building outlines shown:
But there’s a surprise when you zoom in:
The buildings are little isometric drawings rather than just outlines. They’re not particularly accurate drawings – I recognize the Washington Building (One Broadway), the Bowling Green Building (11 Broadway), and the Columbia Building (29 Broadway) only because I’m familiar with them. Trinity Church looks about right, though.
When I was a kid, a spiritual descendant of this map was everywhere, although it stopped being updated in the 80s when the company that made it went bankrupt:
