From Lewis Hine in 1931, “Two workers riveting a corner beam” at the Empire State Building:

The small size of the beams suggests that this is the spire above the 86th floor, but that’s a guess. The fellow on the left has the pneumatic hammer that is pounding the red-hot rivet end into a head; the one on the right is holding the rivet in place by pressing a tool against the pre-formed head on the other end of the rivet shaft. This action was performed some hundred thousand times in the course of building the frame, so it’s as normal as could be.
The setting’s pretty, though.
