Equitable on Broad Street 11

The end is in sight: both for the construction of the Equitable Trust Building at 15 Broad Street in 1926-1928, and for this series of posts. Today’s the last post with exterior photos because, in skyscraper construction, once the facade is complete and the windows are installed, photographing the outside of the building every week gets sort of boring.

First, a good overall view on October 4, 1927, of the upper portions of the Broad Street (left) and Exchange Place facades, with masonry work still going strong:

The little Wall Street wing is on the far side from this angle, completely hidden.

Here’s the view looking northwest on October 21, catching the “rear” eastern facade that faces 43 Exchange Place and 37 Wall Street, with the derricks almost gone:

The completed facade of the Wall Street wing on November 7, showing, among other things, how dirty the stone of the JP Morgan building on the right got in less than 20 years in the coal-smoke-laden atmosphere of the era:

There’s a big gap in time in the exterior photos in the group, to February 13, 1928, when we have a view of a Broad Street entrance and a chandelier on the inside:

An undated glamour portrait, looking northeast and showing the chonky tower in all its glory:

And my favorite type of rendering, where the neighboring buildings have mysteriously disappeared. We’re looking southeast with the Broad Street facade on the right, the Wall Street wing on the left, and the north lot-line wall overlooking Morgan in-between. Still chonky, although the Wall Street wing makes an effort otherwise. For this view to be real, you’d have to demolish Bankers Trust (directly behind the viewpoint), the Stock Exchange (on the right), and Federal Hall (on the left). So, perhaps, a bit unrealistic.
